Traditional Flush Casement Timber Windows
Our traditional flush casement timber windows offer the simple look that suits period properties, whilst still having modern technology cleverly hidden away.
This style of window is manufactured to accept both the standard butt hinges as well as friction hinges. This is a very versatile style option when trying to match existing windows with a conventional look, where the sash sits in line with the frame. The traditional flush casement has bolder lines and larger mullions than the high performance flush casement, and is often favoured by conservation departments and customers alike. We offer both side and top hung variations, although friction hinges are used as standard in top hung sashes.
These handcrafted windows are made from the highest quality sustainable timbers. We only purchase timber from suppliers who offer FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) or PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) certified products. We also insist on using completely solid timber (not engineered or veneered components). Whilst we are able to offer any timber legally available in this country, we predominantly use Sapele hardwood, with its fine-knit grain giving good durability for external joinery use; and joinery grade European redwood, which has fewer knots than some lesser grades of softwood.
Our traditional flush casements outperform many of the past designs of flush casements once available, due to the hardware and weatherseal used. We have not, at this time, had these windows tested to the same standards as the high performance flush and stormproof casements, as they are manufactured to take a unique flush casement system, designed in Denmark. However, this system has passed all the legal requirements to be available on the British market, and we hope to have these windows tested in the near future. We do, however, have every confidence that their air and water tightness is second to none, and when this system is coupled with high performing insulating glass units, they are sure to more than just pass the requirements to meet current building regulations.
The range of hardware used as standard, offers a very high level of security for our traditional flush casements, with added security features available should you require them. Please ask one of our team at the point of preparing your quote, to ensure that we can meet or surpass your requirements.
At TimberPlus, we are so confident in the quality of finish of all our joinery items, that we don’t feel the need to ‘cover-up’ our workmanship with a paint or stain finish. We therefore, leave all of our items in the raw timber state as standard, whether they be in hardwood or softwood. That said, we also understand that some of you would prefer to leave the finishing to experts, which is why we are able to offer you a range of finishes from just priming through to full factory spray finish and factory glazing in your choice of colour(s) as an added extra, giving you peace of mind that all you are left to do is fix the window in place. Please note: if you are upgrading to a full factory finish including pre-glazing, we advise you to make sure this will not cause difficulty when it comes to fitting yourwindows (see our guide on installing timber windows).
